From an random picture to winning a competition.
Now, from a competition to the NEWSPAPERS!!! Again!!!
I didn't see it coming!! I swear!!! I never knew that it would come this far!! -___-lll
I think all my efforts is worth winning this competition. Even though that I know that the rewards are not as rewarding as it should be, as there were no cash nor free trips involved for winning this competition. But, I was fine with it. Money didn't matter to me, nor the gifts.
Now, looking back, it means more than anything else to me.
Being on newspaper.
There are many competitions in this world. Some people join competitions to win cash and prizes. But, how many of these competitions had announced their winners on newspapers? Had the winners message made any impacts to the society?
I guess, none.
I just hope one day that I will inspire and change the world. Just one day.
Just hopefully, that it won't end here.
I wished God let me. Insya-Allah.
Sunday, 9.30am. 30 minutes away before my day starts to get busy.
"Lin!" My shift manager called.
I went into the office. "Yes?"
"Jom! Kira duit," he answered.
He unlocked the huge, cold, hard steel and took out the packets of money.
RM50.
RM10.
RM5.
RM1.
Many times before, I've helped out my shift manager to count profits from last night sales. I remembered the first time I held those cold, hard cash. I had never seen or held so much cash ever in my life.
Seeing it everyday at work became a normal thing for me. I ran short errands for my shift manager which includes banking money and counting them.
They trusted me.
They trusted me.

I am currently facing some financial difficulties in paying my University course fee as my first semester course fee is not settled yet.
Even after I have submitted the PTPTN loan, I still have to wait for the Government to approve my application, which takes like FOREVER!! Trying to persuade the University to allow me to pay my course fee through installations for my first semester until my loan is accepted.
One fine day, while me and my shift manager was counting the money.
I felt an evil urge to grab all those money right in front of me.
RM8,169.
That's all I need to pay for my semester fee.
If only I could.
If only it is not illegal.
If only no one sees me.
If only I was invincible.
But, that will never happen.
So, it's true that money is the root of all evil, huh?

I remember doing this Earth Hour thesis for my English assignment, and it really sickens me at the end of my thesis paper.
But, nevertheless, my feelings for Mother Earth will never fade!!! I still practice the habit of recycling, reusing and reducing my usage of resources!!! I've done so much for Mother Earth, but yet, I feel like I'm the only person in the university campus who is doing it alone.
Well, I don't care what my friends say about me, I'm still gonna fight for Mother Earth till my last breath!!!
As a reminder, tomorrow is Earth Hour. I do hope everyone of you would support this event by switching off your lights for 1 hour from 8.30pm-9.30pm!!
If not....
It was 10am in the morning when I received a phone call from a friend.
"Hello...," I said, groggily, as I was in the middle of my sleep.
"Hello...," I said, groggily, as I was in the middle of my sleep.
"Siew Siew!!" Came a familiar, cheerful voice over the line.
I groaned. "What you want...?" Came my reply.
"Okay. Just to ask you larh. I saw this advertisement on...."
Yean Lynn started filling me out with details about MTV Exit competition.
"So, I just want to ask for your opinion about the competition larh, since you're the most creative person I know."
"And than?" I asked, started to feel annoyed.
"So, I was thinking that, can Nui Nui and me come over to your house to take pictures for the competition?"
"Fine. Whatever."
***
"Do I have to really do it? 'Coz I feel so lazyyyyyy..." I complained.
I guess no one heard me, or actually, bothered about my complains.
"Can I not join this competition thingy...?? I feel so tired....."
Again, no one heard me.
Sara was busy helping Yean Lynn with her make-up. On the other hand, Yean Lynn was busy with... herself.
"Oh! Fine!! Just give me that black powder!"
***
"If we 3 made it to the top 6 finalists, we'll be sworn enemies, competing with each other," Yean Lynn joked.
"Nahhh... I don't really care. I'd just joined for fun," said Sara, combing her hair to the back.
I sigh. "Aiyah! Whatever larh! If either one of us come out in the top 6, I'll be laughing my ass out man."
At the end, my picture did.

First of all, I would like to thank my bestie Heng Yean Lynn. Without her, I wouldn't have heard of this competition, and I wouldn't have participated in the first place. I would like to thank my bestie Sara Nui Kuan Yee for being such a wonderful make-up artist!! However, your make-ups doesn't apply to me, 'coz I did my own make-up ya :P By the way, HOW COME YOU'RE SO GOOD AT MAKE-UP, BUT YOU CAN'T GET AN A FOR SPM PENDIDIKAN SENI?!
Adding on, I would like to thank those who have supported me and giving me their votes. Like I have said, I would not let your votes go to waste!! And indeed, it didn't!!! Thank you so much to those who have helped me spread the word too!! You know who you are :P
Plus, I would like to congratulate the other competitors too!! You have amazing pictures as well!! Some of them are quite good at conveying messages about human trafficking too!!
Last but not least, thanks to MTV Exit for giving me the chance to participate in this event!! This is my first time for accomplishing something this big! Well, sort of.
Once again, THANK YOU!!!

I once told myself, that I DIE DIE DIE I also won't go to Sunway University. Because it was too expensive.
I told all my friends that I wouldn't end up studying there, if it's the last thing I do. Everything that is inside that campus is all about $. The people. The facilities. The books. Everything.
And, look!
Look where I had ended up to?
Studying my Pre-U Foundation In Arts in Sunway University.
Not only that, I'm also pursuing my 3 years Degree in that same University too.
Now, that I have just graduated from my foundation, I started to have flashbacks about my university registration.
Sometimes, I do not understand what God has in plan for me. I think that anything unexpected can happen to us anytime, anywhere.
So, what I want to say is, embrace yourself for some unexpected events!!!
I knew this was gonna happen.
My first part-time job.
I felt so nervous and anxious about my first job. I was always clumsy and forgetful, which worries me sometimes. I was scared that I will cause major problems and make my shift manager mad at me. I thought I would not get along with the workers there, as all the workers could not speak in English, forcing myself to speak The Rojak Language.
My working life did not stay the same after I met him. He was the reason why I look forward to work in Pizza Hut everyday. Though it was hard for us to communicate, but we still manage to understand each other.
His name was Hassan. A young Malay boy, just about my age, or maybe older. Tall, skinny and gelled-up durian hair. I remembered Hassan coming up to me on my first day, while I was cleaning up a table. He did not ask for my name, age, nor my race. He did not look at me either.
He came up beside me and said,"Oh, look. A customer is coming in."
I glanced up, looking at the front entrance. A big, size man came walking in through the front entrance. I was wondering, 'what is it with him'. And these few words I still remember it till today.
And he said,"That is our number 1 regular customer."
After that, we fast became good friends.
I am still shaken by this whole event. I could not believe what I am actually seeing. It was so hard to believe, but guess what?
I AM THE TOP 6 FINALIST OF MTV EXIT BOLD LIPSTICK COMPETITION!!!
But, first of all, I would like to thank my bestie, Heng Yean Lynn. Without her, I would not have known about this event. If it is not because of her, I would not have participated in this event either.
Secondly, I would like to thank Sara Nui Kuan Yee for being such an amazing artist!! Even though you suck at art, but your talents outshine as an make-up artist!!! (HOW COULD THIS BE?!) But, this does not count your make-up on me larh. 'Cause I paint myself okay ;P
Without these 2 girls, it would not have been this much fun, making ourselves look like slaves and prostitutes. Not only that, our pictures were also the top most favourite among other pictures. It is just that, they did not make it to the Final 6. But, once again, thank you for being such wonderful friends!!!

Remember that time when I wanted to do 'chopsticks' as my subject for Culture Performance assignment??
And you must have been wondering, what does chopsticks has to do with art. Is chopsticks an art?
Of course to me, it is. Though, chopsticks has been used since during the late Shang Dynasty in China, countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam and Korea are using chopsticks too. If chopsticks is not an art, than what is? It is globally used, even in the US!
And did you know, 80% of people who are using chopsticks, are using it the wrong way.
Wrong |
Correct |
Of course, is not that we really bother, because chopsticks are just utensils to help us put food in our mouth, right? As long as we are able to get something into our mouth, it's okay, right?
But, you are WRONG. Chopsticks represents people. We tend to forget and neglect the old customs and traditions in the family as we grow older. Our future children would not be be able to practice the same exact traditions like we do today. Soon, old traditions will be forgotten.
Just like chopsticks, we neglect and forget the old ways of holding a pair of chopstick. Soon enough, our children will be doing the same thing too.
What would people be using if chopsticks weren't invented in the first place?
Sometimes, I wonder.
