Why We Wear Our Wedding Rings On The Fourth Finger

By steambunz - Monday, October 06, 2008

Have you ever wondered why wedding rings are wore on the fourth finger and not others?

There is a beautiful and convincing explanation given by the Chinese tradisional custom way of explaining it.

1. Arranged your palms together as shown at the picture below

Now the game starts here

2. Try to open your thumb, which represents parents, it can be opened because all humans go through sickness and death. That is why our parents will leave us one day

3. Close up your thumb, then open your second finger, the finger represents sibling, they do have their own family and so, will leave us too

4. Now close up your second finger, open up your little finger, this represents your children. Sooner or later they will have to leave us too

5. Lastly, close up your little finger, try to open your forth finger where we place our wedding ring, you will be surprised to find that it cannot be opened easily. This represents husband and wife, this whole life you will be attached to each other

Real love will stick together forever...

Meanings :

Thumb represents parents
Second finger represents brothers & sisters
Centre finger represents yourself
Fourth finger represents your partner
Last finger represents your children

Siew Lin's Note : Many people ask me why the middle finger is not shown during the game. At my own explanation, the middle finger is a bad word. (You know, all those teenage people who points middle fingers at you...get it?xD)
